| Where and when were you born? I was born In Pointe-Claire, Qc. As for WHEN… well c’mon! You should know better than that than to ask a lady when she was born! Lol.. A lady never tells.. What is your profession? Personal trainer What kind of activities/sports did you do before you started lifting weights? I was an equestrian when I was a teenager. I rode horses over fences, broke them and started coaching when I was 17. Horses were my life, ad I used to spend all my free time at the stable. How and when did you get involved into lifting weights? HAHA.. I started lifting when I was 16 with my brother on an old YORK set! I was trying to get stronger as I was trying to become a stronger rider! My goal was to become as powerful as possible, and to have the best seat ever seen! Later on, I took a bodybuilding course in Cegep when I was 18. It was called Bodybuilding 101 (lol) and it fulfilled the physical education requirement for my degree back then. I took it because I thought it was going to be a flock course… I was wrong. I was challenged, but enjoyed it so much that I started thinking “ hey.. maybe I could teach this for a living!”… the rest.. is history! Was it a goal for you to compete in Fitness competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body? Oh God no! You have to remember: When I started lifting fitness models were only breaking out, Debbie Dobbins was a Goddess, and Sharron Bruneau was merely only on the verge of becoming the legend that she is now! Competition only started becoming a dream of mine much later as I started reading “Oxygen”. What was your first competition and how did you place? The first show I ever did was called the Northern cup Challenge. I can’t believe I actually won the show, since I had NO IDEA what a pre-judging was at all (or what I was supposed to do there). No one helped me with this venture at all. I did everything on my own, and taught myself everything in terms of dieting, training and gymnastics for this event! (kind of a crazy thing to do, I know! And of course.. let’s just say that I was a bit rough around the edges!). That said: I had no idea what to expect, how to stand, where to stand, when to come back on stage.. LOL.. that was just funny:) And which contest has been the biggest success for you yet? Not sure. Winning the 2003 Ontario’s was pretty cool, but not because I won: Because I had completely destroyed my right knee 6 days before the event. I passed out off my bike while out on a ride on the previous Sunday (yea.. I was givin’ er!) and there was absolutely NO KNEE left when I got back up! I had to get physio all week. I was a good girl though (cough, cough!) Good enough to win the show J Could you please add a history of all contests that you have entered so far? 2001 Northern Cup Challenge, Fitness short class. 1st 2001 Northern Ontario Fitness and Bodybuilding Champ. 2nd 2001 Ontario Natural Bodybuilding Championships. 2nd 2001 IFBB North American Championship, fitness short class 4rth 2001 London and western Ontario bodybuilding and Fitness, 2nd 2002 Ontario Natural Bodybuilding Championships. 4rth 2003 CBBF World Qualifier, fitness short class, 4rth 2003 Ontario Figure, Fitness and Bodybuilding champ., fitness short. 1st 2004 CBBF Fitness and figure Nationals, 8th 2004 Ontario Natural championships, fitness short class 1st 2004 CBBF world Qualifier, 3rd Please describe a typical day in the life of Chantal Milot. Roll out of bed at 6am, take the supplements, go out for the first cardio run of the day (45 minutes). Go to the club and train clients, train myself (weight training), train in-home clients until 9pm. Go home, hit the second cardio run (45 minutes), read or e-mail, or do paper-work take pm supplements go to bed. Please tell me something about your daily training routine. I don’t have one of those! (other than the regimented cardio sessions). My training changes all the time. I periodize my training, but never do the same session twice. Things always change. In a nutshell: I always just rip it up! Go hard , or go home! How often do you train in a week? 6 days a week ( with cardio on at least 5 days) What are the main differences when you train for a competition and in off-season? That darn second cardio session! URGH If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)? Biceps: 13 inches flexed Chest: 37B waist 25 hips 35 thigh 20 calves: 14 free squat: 2 plates for a few reps chin-ups : about a dozen dumbell press (the only kind of pressing movement you should ever do!!!): 60 lbs for a few reps What’s your general philosophy in life? How does training help you in your daily life? One of my favorite philosophies is that we should see things as they are. As we face various obstacles in life, it is easy to over-think the issues and then turn these issues into far greater ones than they were meant to be. To quote myself:” It is what it is! Basically, if you want to learn the natural world’s principle of success, you’ll need to see things as neither good nor bad, but simply as they are.” Training with that much intensity becomes a type of a meditation for me. You will need to focus very intently in order to block the pain out of your mind, and complete our set as intended. Training in such bbbba manner helps keep me grounded, and helps me develop a kind of self-awareness that I feel makes me a better person. What kind of training brought you the most gains (sets, reps, split, etc.) either for fat loss and/or muscle gains? Hmmm.. I am said to be some kind of a genetic freak! I will put on muscle..no matter what I kind of training I do. I enjoy suicide sets, rest-pause sets, consecutive constant-weight sets to boost my heart rate up while training. Training in this manner helps me achieve muscle quality and helps me achieve a much more defined look…naturally! What empowers/motivates you as an athlete? Plateaus motivate me! J.. I literally work my butt off when I am faced with one! Which bodypart is your best in your opinion? My back. It gets pretty ripped. My lats are huge!!!! It even gets striated! Love it! What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much? Barbell rows is my all-time favorite!. I hate lying leg curl. The clicking in my right knee drives me nuts and grosses me out! Please tell me about what else you are doing when you don’t work out (profession, hobbies, etc.) Cuddle with the dog, read, rent a flick, go to movies with a friend, or with my boyfriend if he happens to be in town. Work online, do paperwork (write programs, diets for clients). Go for Shiatsu…. If I am lucky J What are your future plans for 2005? I am actually planning on returning to school for massage therapy. I want to obtain a certification in deep tissue massage and MRT or Graston to be able to help my clients overcome their injuries quicker and safer. I think it would be a good thing to have a dual occupation like that. Please note: Chantal does not not do sessions or wrestling of any kind. Please don't ask!! |
